How To Make Energy Boosting Pregnancy Bliss Balls

How To Make Energy Boosting Pregnancy Bliss Balls

If you’ve never had a bliss ball before then, you’re in for a treat! Bliss balls are essentially convenient, ball-shaped, bite-size snacks designed to provide you with a hit of nutrients and energy. Unlike store-bought granola bars, protein bars, or similar energy snacks, there’s no need for home-made bliss balls to contain preservatives, additives, or hidden nasties. This means that not only do you get to create a delicious recipe that suits your personal tastes, you also have peace of mind knowing each and every ingredient that goes into it.

The Basics Of Bliss Balls

Once you know the basics of making bliss balls, it’s incredibly easy to start creating your own tasty bliss ball recipes. Here’s what you need to know to get started:

  • Bliss Balls Need A Binding Ingredient

To stop your bliss balls from being a crumbly mess, they need a binding ingredient to make them sticky and help them hold together. Some of the best binding ingredients include nut butter, honey, and Medjool dates, but essentially anything a little bit sticky would work. Another way to help your ingredients bind together if they’re a little bit dry and crumbly is to add a bit of water to your recipe.

  • Nuts, Seeds, And Dried Fruit Will Be Your Three Main Ingredients

Almost every bliss ball contains some combination of dried fruit, nuts, and seeds. Dried fruit is the healthiest way to add natural sweetness to your bliss balls, and moist dried fruits such as dates and apricots also help your ingredients bind together. For texture, healthy fats, protein, and fiber, chopped nuts and seeds are also key ingredients in your bliss balls and are what gives them their substance to make them satiating. As well as nuts, seeds, and dried fruit, you could also add some chocolate chips or rice crispies to your recipe.

  • A Food Processor Or Blender Brings Everything Together

Although we’re sure you could make bliss balls without a food processor or blender, they sure do make the process much quicker and easier. Simply pop your ingredients into your chosen appliance and let the sharp blades do the work. Once your ingredients form a crumb, it’s time to slowly add in your water or nut butter to bring the mixture together. Once moist but not wet, your bliss balls can then be rolled into balls by hand. If you find your bliss balls are sticking too much to your hands, then wet your hands or dust them with almond flour.

  • Don’t Forget To Add Your Favorite Flavors

Bliss balls generally taste amazing without flavoring, but sometimes a dash of vanilla extract, some cocoa powder, or even a sprinkle of your favorite flavored protein powder can help to make them feel extra indulgent.

  • For Cleaner Fingers, Roll Your Bliss Balls In Shredded Coconut

Some bliss ball recipes end up quite sticky, which can get messy when you’re eating them with your fingers. Try rolling your finished bliss balls in shredded coconut or finely chopped or slivered pistachios to reduce stickiness. Rolling your bliss balls in a dry ingredient not only gives them extra texture and flavor but also puts a barrier between your fingers and the sticky bliss ball underneath.

  • Freeze Your Bliss Balls To Make Them Last Longer

Finally, to save on washing up, the easiest way to make bliss balls is to make them in a big batch and freeze them until you want them. To freeze your bliss balls, simply place them in an airtight container and place a sheet of greaseproof baking parchment between each layer of balls to stop them from sticking together. At the beginning of the day or during the week, simply take out as many bliss balls as you want and allow them to defrost.
