Hibiscus is a fruity, caffeine-free plant with origins in North Africa and South East Asia. It is known by many names including Red sorrel, Jamaica, Lo Shen, Sudan tea and Sour tea - although it does not come from the tea plant.
While sour in taste, its high level of minerals - including iron, magnesium, sodium, calcium, potassium, zinc and B-vitamins - give rise to the many uses of this amazing plant species. It has been used historically to reduce blood pressure, high cholesterol, inflammation, and recent studies show its effects in promoting weight loss. Like lavender, Hibiscus has a calming effect on the central nervous system and therefore helps reduce depression and anxiety.
