Peach Strawberry Hazelnut Crumble
Bursting with all the fresh fruit flavours of summer, this Peach Strawberry Hazelnut Crumble is the perfect dessert to showcase two of our most favourite summertime fruits: Peaches and Strawberries! Simple, buttery and jam-packed with fresh fruity goodness, this dessert is best served alongside a cold scoop of ice cream on a hot day. ☀️
What You Will Need:
This dessert is surprisingly easy and requires few ingredients. Here’s what you will need to make it:
Peaches. You will need fresh, ripe peaches for this recipe. The best way to tell a peach is ripe is by touch and smell more than just looking at the colour. Ripe peaches will have a slight sweet smell and will be soft when gently touched. It’s up to you whether you peel them or not; peeled or unpeeled peaches will both work in this recipe.
Strawberries. There’s nothing better than fresh strawberries. You will need roughly 4 cups of fresh strawberries, halved. Peaches and strawberries go perfectly with each other; their distinct flavours make an irresistible pairing!
Rolled Oats. You can also use quick or instant oats if you have those on hand.
Hazelnuts. Adds the perfect crunch and nuttiness to the topping.
Cinnamon. An optional addition to this crumble, but adds a warm and aromatic flavour.
Honey. A natural substitute for sugar, honey adds a distinct sweetness that goes perfectly with the fresh fruit.
Butter. Butter is needed for the topping. If you are vegan, you can substitute the butter for margarine.
Orange Juice. To make the filling, an acid is generally needed. Lemon juice is generally used, but we love the flavours that fresh orange juice adds to this crumble.
How To Make Peach Strawberry Hazelnut Crumble:
The process of making this crumble couldn’t be easier! Start by chopping the peaches and cutting the strawberries in half. In a bowl mix in the orange juice and cinnamon. Place the fruit mixture into a small baking dish and set aside.
For the crumble topping, in a food processor, pulse the hazelnuts until finely chopped. Place them in a large bowl and mix in the oats, salt, cinnamon, honey and butter.
Spread the crumble topping over the fruit mixture and place in the oven. Bake at 350F for 30-35 minutes. Serve immediately and top with ice cream, whipped cream or yogurt. YUM!
How To Store Leftovers:
This Peach Strawberry Hazelnut Crumble can be left on the counter covered for up to two days. However, if you want to keep it for longer, it’s best to freeze any leftovers you have. Make sure the crumble has cooled completely and cover in an airtight container. You can freeze it for up to 3 months and when you’re ready to eat it, thaw overnight in the fridge. To warm the crumble, place it in the oven at 350F for about 20 minutes or until fully heated.
